Indigenous Health

We acknowledge the traditional landowners of Australia and we welcome all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our services.

About Indigenous Health

Many Indigenous Australians experience poorer health than other Australians and have higher rates of mental health problems and chronic diseases such as respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, trachoma and rheumatic heart disease.

Closing the Gap (CTG)

Improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is a national priority. Closing the Gap provides better access to Medicare and medicines, extra free immunisations, co-ordinated care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with chronic conditions and helps reduce smoking rates.

Our doctors provide primary health care including child and maternal health, arrange and manage support for people with chronic diseases, offer CTG for eligible individuals, and provide regular health checks and immunisations.

Telehealth Services

We offer telephone consultations to all existing patients. Booking a telephone consultation operates in the same manner as a standard face-to-face appointment.

When booking online, simply select the appointment type ‘Phone Consultation’.

Alternatively, you can call reception on 07 2812 2281.

Please note your GP will do their best to contact you at the scheduled time, however unexpected delays may occur.

Referrals and imaging requests can be emailed or sent directly to your healthcare provider post-appointment.

Scripts issued during a telephone consultation must be collected from reception.

We do not prescribe S8 medications.

Workcover

If you were injured at work, travelling to work, or travelling home from work, you may be eligible to claim WorkCover through your employer.

Please confirm whether your employer is covered by WorkCover QLD or a self-insurer.

Please advise reception prior to your consultation if your appointment relates to a work injury.

Skin Check

Our experienced skin cancer doctor will take 15–20 minutes for a full skin check depending on your skin type. The doctor will need to examine all sun-exposed areas and will ask you to undress down to your underwear. Ladies are asked not to wear makeup.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Skin cancer is diagnosed by clinical examination and biopsy. Treatment depends on your age and general health, the type and size of cancer, its location, and your preferences.

Treatment options may include surgery, cryotherapy, topical chemotherapy, curettage and cautery where appropriate.

Fees

All skin cancer consultations and procedures are bulk billed.

Non-skin cancer or cosmetic procedures (e.g. cyst or benign mole excision) may incur an out-of-pocket fee depending on complexity.

DVA Gold Card holders are bulk billed for all procedures.

Telephone

To maintain confidentiality, we minimise telephone interruptions to doctors. A nurse may be able to assist you. If you wish to speak to your doctor, a message will be taken and your call returned as soon as possible.

Urgent enquiries will be put through to the doctor.

Patient Privacy

This practice protects your personal health information to ensure it is only available to authorised staff and complies with the Privacy Act. To obtain a copy of our Privacy Statement or your medical records, please ask at reception.

Recall and Reminder System

Committed to preventative care, your doctor may seek your permission to include you in our reminder system.

We may issue reminder notices for preventative health services appropriate to your condition (e.g. diabetic register, cervical screening, asthma register, aged care assessments).

If you do not wish to participate, please inform your doctor or reception staff.

Billing

New Patients

We welcome new patients and walk-in bookings.

We bulk bill all consultations including skin checks.

We are mixed billing for certain medical procedures, cosmetic procedures, consumables, iron infusions and Saturday consultations.

Patients with a valid Medicare card are eligible for bulk billing. Patients without a Medicare card will be charged according to our private fee structure. International students presenting a student ID will be charged the applicable international student fee.

Billing decisions remain at the discretion of the doctor.
